Our Personalized Service

Parker County Estate Planning Attorney

At The Cleverly Law Firm, we understand that estate planning is more than just drafting documents; it’s about crafting a plan that aligns with your values and visions for the future of your family. Many of my clients initially came to me concerned about preserving their wealth and avoiding disputes among heirs—common fears that often lead to procrastination or reliance on oversimplified solutions like generic online tools or basic wills.

What we do differently is focus on your family’s unique story. We dive deep into understanding not just your financial situation but your personal wishes, family dynamics, and long-term goals. This approach isn’t just about distributing your wealth but ensuring it supports your loved ones in the most effective way possible.

When should I start estate planning?
The best time to start estate planning is now. While it’s easy to think of estate planning as something for older adults, the truth is that anyone over 18 can benefit from having basic documents in place. Life is unpredictable, and having an estate plan gives you control over what happens to your assets and loved ones, regardless of what the future holds.
How often should I update my estate plan?
We recommend reviewing your estate plan every 1-3 years or after any major life event such as:

Marriage or divorce
Birth or adoption of a child
Death of a beneficiary
Significant changes in financial situation
Moving to a new state
What happens if I die without a will in Texas?
If you die without a will in Texas, your estate will be distributed according to the state’s intestacy laws. This means the court decides who gets your assets, who will raise your children and who will control the distribution of your assets – all of which may not align with your wishes. Moreover, the probate process can be longer and more expensive without a will, potentially reducing the value of your estate.
How does a trust differ from a will?
Unlike a will, a properly funded trust can help your estate avoid probate. Trusts also offer more control over how and when your assets are distributed, and they remain private, unlike wills, which become public record.
